Launch Sprint (0 → 1)

From idea to a deployed product, fast — because we've taken our own 0-to-1 more than once.

Launch Sprint takes a validated idea to a real, production-deployed Rails product on a fixed-scope schedule — core features, auth and payments where you need them, and an actual deploy in front of real users, not a staging demo. It's for founders who need to start learning from the market now, without a rented dev shop and a six-month runway. It's fast because we've taken our own products 0-to-1 more than once, on the same clock we'd use for yours.

What problem does this solve?

You have a validated idea and momentum, and both are leaking away while you wait. The quotes you're getting come with a discovery phase, a design phase, a six-month timeline, and a team you have to manage. What you actually need is something real in users' hands — enough to charge for, learn from, and iterate on — before the window closes or the budget runs out. You don't want a pitch deck about your product. You want your product, deployed.

How we approach it

1. Shape the scope hard — decide the smallest thing that's genuinely useful and cut everything else. 2. Build the core features fast, reusing patterns already proven in our own products instead of inventing from scratch. 3. Add auth and payments only where the product truly needs them on day one. 4. Deploy to real production infrastructure — a live URL, not a staging link. 5. Hand you a running product plus a clear path for what comes after launch. Speed comes from Rails 8 conventions and reuse, never from skipping tests or cutting the corners that bite later.

What you get

- A shaped, agreed scope — the exact feature set the sprint will ship - The core product features, built on Rails 8 - Authentication where needed (passwordless / passkeys) - Payments wired up (Stripe) where the product charges from day one - A real production deployment on infrastructure you own (Kamal) - A working test suite covering the critical paths - A short, honest "what to build next" so momentum doesn't stall at launch

How long does it take?

A fixed-scope sprint: scope shaped up front, then built and deployed on a committed schedule agreed before we start. Fixed scope, not an open-ended meter.

Launch, don't plan-to-launch

The fastest way to learn whether your idea works is to put it in front of real users and charge for it. A Launch Sprint exists to get you there — a real, deployed Rails product on a fixed-scope schedule, so you're iterating on live feedback while everyone else is still in discovery.

We can move fast without being reckless because we've done this before, for ourselves. Every product Octane owns went 0-to-1 this way.

We ship 0-to-1 for ourselves on the same clock

TrackWright went from a TypeScript geometry engine to a deployed, offline-capable PWA with a 2D editor and a 3D WebGL view. ContractorLink and BeanLink each went from an empty repo to a multi-tenant SaaS running in production. Nobody handed us a runway to do it — we shaped scope, reused what we'd proven, and shipped.

That's the same discipline you get: the smallest genuinely useful product, live, fast — built on a stack that won't have to be thrown away when it grows.

Why the modern stack is the speed

Launch Sprint speed isn't heroics or all-nighters. It's Rails 8 doing what Rails does — convention over configuration — plus the Solid stack (Queue, Cache, Cable) and Kamal, which means no time lost wiring up Redis, Sidekiq, or a bespoke deploy pipeline. The infrastructure that usually eats the first month of a build is a solved problem here.

How the engagement runs

We shape the scope together up front and commit to it — the feature set and the schedule are agreed before we start, so there are no surprises and no open-ended meter. Then we build, deploy, and hand you a running product with an honest note on what to build next. From there, most founders grow the sprint into a full platform build or an OctaneCare retainer.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from Custom Rails Platforms?
Launch Sprint is fixed-scope and speed-first: get a real product live and start learning. Custom Rails Platforms is the deeper, architected build for when you know exactly what you need to run for years. Many clients do a Launch Sprint first, then grow it into a full platform once the market says yes.
How can you ship this fast without cutting corners?
Speed comes from Rails 8 conventions and from reusing patterns we've already proven in our own products — multi-tenancy, auth, Stripe, deploys we've built before. We're not inventing infrastructure on your dime. What we don't cut is tests and a real production deploy; those are what make the next iteration safe.
Do you actually deploy it, or do I get a codebase to figure out?
We deploy it. You get a live product on a real URL, running on infrastructure you own via Kamal — not a staging demo and not a zip file. The point of a Launch Sprint is that real users can use it the day it ends.
What if I need more after the sprint?
That's the normal path. A Launch Sprint is designed to grow — into a fuller Custom Rails Platform build, or onto an OctaneCare retainer so the product keeps shipping. Because it's built on clean Rails 8, there's no throwaway work to undo.
